Zovio Employee Relations Leader in Chandler, Arizona

The Employee Relations Leader will work at both a strategic and operational level to provide fair and thoughtful guidance on all Employee Relations matters. This position will counsel leadership on the interpretation and consistent application of policies, providing support and guidance on performance management, conflict resolution, employee coaching and complaint management. Partnering with the legal department and leadership, the ER Leader will conduct workplace investigations and manage resolution of specific disciplinary or grievance cases. This position is a full-time employment opportunity reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manages and resolves a broad spectrum of complex workplace concerns both in-person and via Zoom

  • Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations on allegations of wrongdoing, violations of policy and Title IX and Title VII.

  • Manages end-to-end investigations, including intake meetings, background research, investigative interviews, and debrief sessions with leadership

  • Represents employee relations/policy matters at all levels of the Company

  • Effectively translates the broader organizational culture and spirit of guidelines to each situation and follow up recommendations

  • Proactively responds to supervisor and employee inquiries (e.g. HR tickets, hotline calls, formal complaints, etc.) and ensures timely resolution

  • Provides coaching to managers and employees on unique and sensitive situations

  • Collaborates with Human Resources colleagues, employees and managers to address root causes of HR concerns, with an aim to resolve them in an efficient and timely manner

  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to front line managers (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, and corrective action review)

  • Anticipates the unintended consequences and broader impact of recommendations

  • Develops & promotes technology solutions and workplace trainings for supervisors and employees to mitigate unnecessary HR tickets and risks

  • Through partnership with other HR functional teams (benefits, compensation, L&D, etc.) and Legal, assists in the preparation and/or delivery of training modules for sexual harassment, workplace threats, legislative awareness, ADA, and disciplinary actions.

  • Consults with Disability Management, Legal and leadership on FMLA/ADA and Return to Work

  • Regularly monitors exit interview and attrition data to prepare insightful presentations to leadership on any identified trends or preventative measure within their department; recommends & develops management training curriculum based on identified areas of need.

  • Provides guidance and support on Company-wide programs and initiatives (e.g., Workforce Planning, Organizational Changes, Restructuring) to promote and coordinate HR responsibilities.

  • Partners with Security and leadership to provide training on any workplace violence or business continuity concerns.

Additional Job Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Works on high-level Human Resources & Employee Relations initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience managing employee relations matters

  • Advanced knowledge and mastery of employee relations practices and programs, as well as federal and state-specific employment laws (e.g. AZ, CA, CO, IL, NY), including ADA, ADAA, PDL, PFL and FMLA.

  • Experience conducting investigations relating to Title IX and Title VII matters

  • Experience in an HR leadership role, providing service to business leaders and employees on a variety of HR matters.

  • Proven experience in conducting workplace investigations; able to manage complex cases simultaneously

  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement actions to achieve favorable outcomes

  • Proven ability in establishing excellent rapport with all professional and executive levels.

  • Clear and effective verbal and written skills.

  • Ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly developed skills associated with conflict resolution, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively with positive outcomes.

  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

  • Ability to be able to flex outside of normal business hours as needed.

  • PHR certification a plus

  • AWI certification a plus


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience required
