Zovio AP Supervisor - Temporary in San Diego, California

Position Summary:

The Accounts Payable Supervisor position is a full-time temporary employment opportunity. Responsibilities and duties include acting as the lead resource to A/P Coordinator(s) for technical questions. The Accounts Payable Supervisor must be knowledgeable about all HR policies and labor regulations to ensure staff compliance. Specific duties include processing weekly payments, hiring and training AP staff, general ledger and disbursements research. Must be a problem solver and able to find and implement department efficiencies related to processing payments. May include implementation of new systems. Responsible for accuracy of payments and expense coding, and compliance with department SOX-404 disbursement and expense controls.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Review incoming invoices and check requests for approval and coding requirements, approve for posting

  • Determine the appropriate coding; compare recommendation from approver against standard accounting practice, including reviewing for capitalization or prepaid requirements

  • Ensure that sales tax is properly recorded when applicable

  • Monitor staff compliance with labor regulations and approve employee time-cards

  • Process payments, including recording electronic payments

  • Processing of weekly check runs and manual payments upon request

  • Performing research for external clients and auditors on expenses and payments, both within and outside of GreatPlains

  • Processing of month-end accruals, including review for completeness

  • Assistance with quarterly subsequent disbursement testing for both internal and external auditors

  • Monitor timeliness of payments, including weekly payment recommendations

  • Monitor accuracy of AP Coordinator’s work and provide additional training or remediation as necessary

  • Monitor backlog of scanning, requesting additional assistance if necessary

  • Review employee reimbursement and company card reconciliations against company policy and process accounting approvals

  • Lead interviewing, on-boarding and training new and existing staff

  • Assist during internal and external review by obtaining documents, preparing reports or responding to inquiries

Additional Job Duties (include but are not limited to):

  • Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies

  • Assist in implementation and training on new systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • General Accounting knowledge

  • Experience with MS Office and account software (Great Plains preferred)

  • At least 5 years of related accounts payable experience in a high-volume environment, including the use of a document imaging system

  • Detail-oriented and accuracy a must

  • Knowledge of prepaid accounts, construction in process and deposits

  • Strong MS Excel skills

  • Knowledge of sales tax accounting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
