The Product Specialist position is a full-time employment opportunity. The Product Specialist will work to support and strengthen the bridges between our business departments and our technology department in order to ensure the best possible experience for our partner institutions’ students and strategic partners is delivered. The Product Specialist is an entry-level role in our Product Delivery Organization and will learn to guide business and IT stakeholders to successful solution delivery. We are looking for an individual who is interested in product and software development, can analyze and articulate Higher Education business processes, and has a passion for delivering new products and services in a highly collaborative environment.

We expect the Product Specialist to have knowledge of the practical use of various solutions including, but not limited to, Customer Relationship Management (like Salesforce.com); Student Information Systems (like CampusVue); and Learning Management Systems (like Canvas or Blackboard). The Product Specialist will work under the guidance of a Sr. Product Manager to analyze business capability change requests; identify business process gaps; align business capabilities with the IT services that serve the business users; report discovered technical debt, decompose desired business capabilities down to features and use cases; and take ownership of product change success. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit; be self-motivated; is willing to learn and collaborate; and is courageous and confident while being respectful of divergent opinions.
Essential Job Duties:
Manage small product enhancements and initiatives that are driven by business priorities and IT resource allocations
Collaborate with business and technical teams to maintain high-level product roadmaps in order to lead change
Define new business capabilities or changes to existing capabilities
Create and manage initiative, epic, or sprint definitions to manage detailed requirements
Decompose capabilities to features, use cases, user stories, and work instructions
Meet regularly with the business representatives to understand current and desired product capabilities performance and develop gap analyses for each change request
Keep the Director of the PMO advised of all work status through continual updates to our product backlogs and service offerings
Ensure business change requests are rationalized against our backlogs to avoid duplication of effort and conflicts in scheduling change
Assist with creating, maintaining and prioritizing the product backlog
Work with Sr. Product Managers to advocate your business areas’ backlog prioritization
Attend daily Scrums to communicate changes in priority and to assist in removing roadblocks
Remove roadblocks as reported by the Scrum Master on behalf of the delivery team
Ensure business is engaged daily in the delivery team activities to ensure testing completeness and work product acceptance at the end of each iteration
Address any change of scope with the Business Product and Service Owners, Enterprise PMO, BTS Product Delivery, and Project Managers.
Review and accept solution design documents to ensure proposed solutions meet business requirements and technical specifications
2 years of experience with CRM solutions
2 years of practical Scrum experience
Familiarity with JIRA Software or similar solutions to track tasks, build a backlog, create user stories, sprints, and other collateral and monitor status
Familiarity with Data Lakes, ODS, OLAP, OTP, and other common data and processing concepts
Ability to lead business requirements gathering sessions
Ability to prioritize items based on value and importance
Awareness of Agile delivery concepts
Ability to correctly write a User Story
Experience applying Agile principles and practices
Experience working with multiple teams
Ability to think and act strategically for all stakeholders
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
1-2 years of experience with the Salesforce.com Platform
1-2 years of practical Scrum experience
1-2 years of practical, applied experience with JIRA Software to track tasks, build a backlog, create User Stories, sprints, and other collateral and monitor status
At least 1 year of experience documenting business processes, work instructions, object models, and cross-functional diagrams.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Organizational Behavior or 3 years of experience in a related job title
Certification in business analysis, project management, or product management preferred.
